NTSCH Code of Ethics
The North Texas Society of Clinical Hypnosis (NTSCH) has adopted the Code of Ethics in order to ensure the highest quality of patient care through the proper and effective use of clinical hypnosis by its members.
- Members of NTSCH shall observe the professional and ethical standards of their respective clinical professions.
- A member of NTSCH shall not support the practice of hypnosis by laypersons. In particular, a member of NTSCH shall not teach hypnotic techniques to lay persons. Lectures informing laypersons about hypnosis are not prohibited so long as such lectures do not include demonstrations or didactic material teaching hypnotic introduction.
- A “lay person” is an individual who lacks clinical training in a therapeutic or scientific profession recognized by NTSCH.
- “Clinical” means the ability to diagnose, prescribe and carry out treatment for a medical, dental, or psychological disorder.
- Members of NTSCH shall only use hypnosis within their respective areas of professional competence.
- The primary concern of each member of NTSCH shall be the clinical well-being of the patient. To this end, each member of NTSCH shall have appropriate professional contact with each patient.
- In the advertising of services or the dissemination of other information, members shall not overstate their professional credentials or make statements or claims, which cannot be substantiated by relevant scientific evidence.
- NO member of NTSCH shall use hypnosis for entertainment purposes.
- Members of NTSCH shall work together and with others in relevant fields to continually improve the use of clinical hypnosis.
- It is recommended that each member of the NTSCH prepare and distribute to patients a statement of office policies regarding appointments fees, payment terms, the existence of professional standards and any other relevant information.
- An alleged breech of the NTSCH Code of Ethics is to be reported to and reviewed by the NTSCH Ethics Committee. After a thorough review, the Ethics Committee will report findings and recommendations to the NTSCH Executive Committee. After review and any appeal, the Executive Committee well act upon the alleged breech. Actions include exoneration, letter of suggested corrective action, letter of reprimand, or removal of membership. If a member is removed, the President will report the removal in writing to the NTSCH membership, ASCH national office and appropriate licensing / certifying agency.
